That girl

I never thought I’d be one of them. You know, one of those girls who doesn’t want to get their hair wet in the pool, doesn’t want to have to re-do their make-up. One of those girls who go to the beach but never go into the ocean. But I had become one of those girls. I tip-toed in the shallow end and smiled awkwardly at boys that were “out of my league” and watched the younger girls dive in. I went to the bathroom and put on liquor store perfume in one of the stalls. Because although every girl was doing it, you couldn’t look like you cared. The funny thing was after twelve seconds waddling in the shallow end we’d go back to smelling like chlorine.
